Selma

The film Selma is about the civil rights movement, and what Martin Luther King Jr. did about the voting rights in Alabama. They marched from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. The film taught me that even though the majority of the white race was against the blacks voting, they still had many white people with them in the marches and protests. All in all I think that it showed unity, and how strong you can be if you do all work together as one to solve an issue.

At first I did not think I was going to like this film if I am being honest, but I did really enjoy it. The thought behind the film was actually really touching to me. I really liked that they all supported one another no matter what the consequence was.

I took an AP American history class last year in high school, and we actually didn't touch much on this topic. We did go over what laws had been passed, but we never talked about them in detail. I actually learned a lot from this movie. It was a great movie to watch, and I would definitely suggest it to others that are going over this topic. It was a very violent movie though so I would suggest that younger audiences should stay away from this movie. I knew a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he was the leader of this movement. He also stepped up and took responsibility for many of the mistakes others have made which is why he was so adored by others. I loved watching this movie, and I am so glad we got to watch it for this class. I am sure this will get us thinking about the mindset for our next essay option.
